Leadership in the Upcoming Elections…

And for any Person in a Leadership Role

In the United States of America, we are preparing to select new (or the same) leadership for our country. One of my associates shared a video with me (at the bottom of the blog post) that they thought conveyed some good information in preparing for this crucial time to come. After reviewing it, I found that Robin Sharma pinpointed many critical points about leadership – for both elected officials and the leaders in our businesses and communities.

Robin points out how important transparency is. I could not agree more! However, the one point missed in the question asked on “candor” is the mannerisms in which a leader conducts him or herself under pressure. Do they treat these direct questions and challenges as personal attacks – or do they stick to the issues?

A person reveals a lot about themselves in the heat.

The issues are important, but I look at the person as well. Who are they? Do they conduct themselves in a way that they preach? Do they exhibit honor and courage or do they stoop to new lows in communication and decency. Communicating honorably, consistent with what I recommend others to do, has been a BIG focus of my own for the last 18 months… at times, it has created moments of significant upheaval in my life and business – but it has been worth it.

I encourage you to watch this video and share additional questions of your own based on Robin Sharma’s definitions. These times are more important than ever. There are 7 BILLION souls now sharing our planet, elections everywhere, economic chaos globally, environmental chaos continually revealing itself. In the midst of all this, who is capable of leading without succumbing under pressure?

There is huge opportunity on this planet right now to turn the tide of chaos. As Bucky would say, can we emerge through emergency?

Marketing Must Haves

marketing-must-haves

I’m not going to tell you that Im a Marketing guru or leader. But, after nearly 30 years in the business of Sales and Business Coaching, I have learned what I consider some marketing basics. Based on the advertisements I see both online and offline, I think there are still many business owners that dont yet know or practice these fundamentals.

On a recent coaching call, I answered many questions about conducting business in a challenging economy.

One of the questions presented was, “What do you think the best form of marketing is to do in a challenging economy – traditional print, radio and TV, or digital and online marketing?” My answer was no matter what economy you are in, you have to go to where your customers and prospects go to get their information. So, if they still watch television rather than consume information from the Internet or newspapers, then advertise on TV. If they are hanging out on social media sites and surfing the web, then go there. Marketing your services in places where your prospects and customers are not present is a big waste of money.

If you are not sure where your customers get their information… ask them. Send them a survey via e-mail or phone and get a sampling of how they found you and where they go to get their daily news and information.

Once you have determined where to advertise, make sure your ads are concise and include these 2 Must Have’s:

1. A compelling reason to want to do business with you – So many advertisements I see still include a company logo, address and other contact information. But, they dont have any information that distinguishes their unique offer or selling proposition. Give me a reason to want to call you or learn more about what you do. But, DON’T create a wall of type to do this. See how few words you can use to convey your sales message in a clear, compelling and concise manner.

2. A call to action Once you have given the fantastic reason to purchase from your company, tell them what the next step is! Dont make them work at figuring out what they need to do next to become a customer tell them what number to call or landing page to visit, etc. to get started today.

So, in a nutshell, the basics include: Target your ad to where your prospects and customers are most likely to find it; give them a compelling reason to do business with you; and include a call to action to guide them in the next step to working with your organization.

Master Facilitators Inner Circle Program

The other night kicked off the first session of the Master Facilitators Inner Circle Program. What a home run!!! We studied Daniel Pink’s Chapter 5 on Mastery from the book “Drive” and everyone got the real secrets of how to motivate people to take action in any training, teaching or facilitating situation – in or out of the training room.

The big “AHA” for everyone was discovering the essence behind why a great facilitator is always in demand and what their REAL mission is.

During the session, we “made over” 3 existing programs for members that will shift their entire programs. And on the spot, created a 5-minute presentation that one person is going to do in front of 5000 people that will clearly rivet the audience members and drive them to action.

For a Hong Kong Inner Circle member, we designed and choreographed two one-hour sessions on marketing. She was stuck as to what to do until we used “facilitator skills” to extract the outcome she was seeking, her programs steps and an outline from her in about 60 seconds. From there we created the exercises, the debriefs and everything. Good thing it was recorded!!! It was magic!

I cannot wait to do one-on-one calls with each of the programs members… Watch out training world!!!!! A whole new form of leadership is about to hit the streets.
